HotDog Pro has a useful 3-view editing feature. This means whilst editing you can:
view the HTML code of the document you are editing in the editing window;
preview your webpage using live document rendering in the ROVER view (Real-time Output ViewER);
view the HTML code of another open document (or the same document!)
in an additional editing window simply by clicking .
The additional editing window makes comparing the code in different documents or within the same document a simple matter. Copying and pasting between different documents or within the same document is also easy.
The ROVER view is HotDog Pro's own internal browser, which means that as you edit you can preview the way your webpage would actually look on the internet. The more common WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) approach in many webpage programs tend to hide the HTML code from authors, leading them to believe that what they see is what their audience will see, which is often not the case. Professional webmasters know that live document rendering gives them full control over their source code while still providing them with an authentic visual representation of their web page in real-time.
The ROVER window has the additional advantages of allowing you to:
browse the web internally;
download any remote page being viewed and open the source in a new editor document;
use rulers that make it simple to see which page elements are aligned to which part of the page and aid in the debugging process;
customize your in-line browser size.
For greater editing space, you may occasionally prefer not to use the
ROVER view, so HotDog Pro allows you to minimise your ROVER view. Or
you can even turn ROVER off completely and preview your webpages
externally by clicking
(on the File toolbar) and selecting the browser of your choice. This
is an especially useful function for ensuring compatibility between
different browsers. (HotDog Pro searches for and automatically
installs any external browsers it finds on your system when you start
HotDog Pro for the first time.)
